What Is Freemasonry?

A timeless fraternity built on friendship, personal growth, charity, and the pursuit of truth.

A Brotherhood with Purpose

Freemasonry is the world’s first and largest fraternal organization. It is guided by the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself, support those around him, and help make the world better through character, service, and brotherhood.

For more than 300 years, Freemasonry has helped men form true friendships, strengthen their character, and seek truth within themselves and the larger world.

True Friendship

Many members meet lifelong friends through Freemasonry, joined by shared traditions, shared purpose, and a commitment to brotherhood.

Personal Development

Ancient Freemasons built structures. Today’s Masons build character through values, discipline, reflection, and service.

Community Service

Masons are called to support those around them through charity, relief, education, and service to their communities.

What Freemasonry Is, and What It Is Not

Freemasonry is not a religion and does not replace a man’s faith. It does not tell a man how to worship, nor does it claim to be a path to salvation.

Instead, Freemasonry encourages men of faith to live with integrity, practice charity, honor their obligations, and become better husbands, fathers, friends, neighbors, and citizens.
